Hide VPN Connection Details in VPN Tracker: 3 Easy Steps

By Team equinuxAugust 25, 2025No Comments

In team environments, keeping sensitive configuration data private is essential. That’s why VPN Tracker TeamCloud includes an option to hide VPN connection details from regular team members. Instead of exposing server addresses, keys, or gateway URLs, only admins with the right license (Executive, VIP, or Consultant) can view and manage the full setup. Other admins still have access, but end users simply connect without ever seeing those critical details.

This approach follows the Zero Trust principle of “least privilege,” ensuring every user only has the access they truly need. It also strengthens security for protocols like WireGuard®, where secondary authentication isn’t available and hiding connection details is especially important.

Why Hide VPN Connection Details?

When you roll out a VPN to your team, the connection setup usually contains sensitive information: server addresses, gateway URLs, or even pre-shared keys. If every user can see these details, there’s always a risk they could be copied, shared, or misused outside your organization.

That’s why VPN Tracker TeamCloud lets admins hide VPN connection details from regular team members. With this option enabled, users can still connect to the VPN securely — but they never see the underlying configuration. Only admins with the right license keep full visibility.

This approach follows the Zero Trust principle of least privilege: give every user just enough access to do their job, and nothing more. By hiding connection details, you reduce the risk of data leaks and make sure sensitive VPN settings stay in the right hands.

Step 1: Open TeamCloud Settings in VPN Tracker

Select your TeamCloud connection in the VPN Tracker sidebar. Click on Configure at the top of the main window and scroll down to the bottom of the connection settings under Setup > Basic Settings.

Here you’ll find the option to “Hide connection details for team members.” Set the checkmark to enable it. Once activated, sensitive configuration data such as server addresses or keys will no longer be visible to regular team members, but they can still connect securely. Don’t forget to click Save so your changes take effect.

Step 2: Enable the Hide VPN Connection Details Option

The hide VPN connection details feature is only available for admins with an Executive, VIP, or Consultant license. If you have one of these plans, you’ll see the option to enable the checkbox in your TeamCloud connection settings.

Once activated, other Team Admins will still be able to view the full connection details when needed. However, regular team members will no longer see sensitive information like server addresses, pre-shared keys, or gateway URLs. They can still connect to the VPN seamlessly, without having direct access to its configuration.

This ensures that technical control stays in the hands of admins, while everyday users only have the access required to work securely.

Step 3: Share the VPN Connection Securely with Your Team

With the hide VPN connection details option enabled, you can now safely prepare the connection for sharing.

Define Connection Access

Open the Access tab to configure who should be able to use the VPN connection. To fine-tune access, choose Select members under the Team section. This allows you to grant VPN access only to specific user groups (e.g. Admins, IT, Marketing) or individual members, instead of making it available to everyone.

This granular access control enforces the Zero Trust principle of least privilege: only the right people get access to the right VPN resources. Admins and Organizers will always retain full visibility and control.

Assign VPN access to specific team members. Admins and Organizers always keep full visibility and control.

Publish the Connection

Once you’ve defined access, flip the Publish switch at the top of the connection settings. Publishing makes the connection visible in the VPN Tracker app for the members and groups you’ve selected. If you don’t publish, the connection remains private to you as the admin.

Extra Security Tip: Combine Hidden Details with Two-Factor Authentication

Hiding VPN connection details is a powerful way to limit what team members can see, but you can take security even further by requiring two-factor authentication (2FA).
With 2FA, users must verify their identity with a second factor (such as an authenticator app) before connecting. This ensures that even if a device or login is compromised, unauthorized users can’t access your VPN.
By combining these two measures:
  • Admins stay in control of all VPN configuration data.
  • Team members connect securely without ever seeing sensitive details.
  • Accounts are protected by both access restrictions and identity verification.
This layered approach delivers practical Zero Trust VPN security: least privilege access for users, plus strong identity checks to prevent breaches.

Best Practices for Zero Trust VPN Sharing

Enabling the option to hide VPN connection details is one of the most effective ways to strengthen your team’s VPN security. But it works best when combined with a few additional best practices:
  • Apply the principle of least privilege

Only grant VPN access to the team members who truly need it. Use the Select members option to fine-tune permissions.

  • Use groups for role-based access

Organize your team into groups (e.g. Admins, IT, Marketing) and assign VPN access to groups instead of individuals. This makes it easier to manage permissions as your team grows.

  • Combine with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Hidden details prevent configuration leaks, while 2FA ensures that even if credentials are stolen, unauthorized users can’t connect. Learn how to set up Two-Factor Authentication.

  • Review access regularly

Periodically check who has access to which VPN connections and update settings as team roles change.

Following these practices ensures that your VPN sharing setup in VPN Tracker TeamCloud reflects a Zero Trust approach: secure by default, controlled by admins, and limited to the right users.

Conclusion: Stronger VPN Security with Hidden Details

In team environments, security often depends on controlling who sees what. By enabling the option to hide VPN connection details in VPN Tracker TeamCloud, you keep sensitive information in the hands of admins while still giving team members seamless VPN access.

Combined with access controls, user groups, and Two-Factor Authentication, this feature helps you put the Zero Trust principle into practice: granting every user only the access they truly need.
